Confidence

Image
CONFIDENCE Why am I writing a blog about confidence? I always mention that confidence is something I am interested and I want to grow my confidence. But why do I have this curiosity to desire for it. Growing up I have felt that I am not that much confident about myself. I have often felt “less than”, incapable and intimated by people and situations. There has been an underlying feeling of discomfort and being exposed. However, the times I have mentioned to others that I feel I am not confident and want to work on it I have often received responses. As a kid I would often write goals and spend time thinking about the future and how it could be better. I was very much a dreamer. It was not so much about my physical environment that I felt needed improvement. Rather it was about my own potential for success. I changed somewhere along the way, losing sight of my natural optimism and belief in myself. I don’t believe there was a particular event that created the situation ...

What a girl wants...

Image
What a girl wants… Well, a question is very much asked by majority of the men being an important subject of matter and that is “What does a girl actually want”? Today I would like to address the men section who would recently have left the zone of bachelorhood and just entered the territory of spouse ship. So, what does a girl (or rather a “woman”) want? “Acceptance” and “Acceptance” and “Acceptance”, yes this is all she wants from you and the new family she happens to be part of. The moment she enters her new she is expected to par the standards set by bunch of people, ready to judge her at the blink of her eyes (I mean let her breathe guys). I think marriage is the only institution where you don’t know the syllabus, the curriculum or the teacher’s expectations and you are still expected to pass with distinction the very first day. Guys, she is just a girl and won’t turn into a super woman overnight, accept that she’s just a human who would need some time to adjust. Ther...

The day I lost my Great-grandma!!

Image
The day I lost my Great-grandma!!   Obviously fear of losing people is something that I’m most scared of, yes-more than ghosts also. When people leave, I hate that thing - whether for a short period or for lifetime. I still remember my best friend when I was a kid, and literally when she left...Well, I was a kid but that thing affected me so badly. And when any family member leaves, trust me that is the worst situation. 12 th May 2016, exactly one month was left for my birthday, it was a peaceful and happening day, as my father was at home that day and we were enjoying and chilling usually like we did always. Then, at 11 in the morning telephone bell ringed, and it was my grandma who told us about my Great- grandma that she is no more. And, all five of us were in shock and tears blended out of our freaking eyes. And we were literally blank and we didn’t know what to do next. That day was like a complete roller–coaster of emotions. There was an underlying feeling of di...

A letter to Future me

Image
A letter to my future self The notion that “you can’t teach an old dog new trick” is, I believe, a scary one. The idea that once we reach a certain age our capacity to learn and grow just ceases to exist in one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. Honestly, I think it’s bullshit, a cop-out, an excuse to behave badly and I want nothing to do with it. I have the profound privilege to be surrounded by some amazing older women; strong, kind, independent, brilliant, adventurous, playful, brave, smart and incredibly inspirational. But then there’s the other group, the ones who use to be those things and now present themselves to the world as cranky, crotchety, pessimistic, fearful and unwilling to bend on anything. Recently I found myself sitting in a room and thinking, “Oh my God. I will not end up like that”. So, this, my open letter to my older self, is my attempt at cutting it to myself straight and in my own words, and drawing a line in the sand on what my expectations f...

Why Gratitude Matters

Image
Why Gratitude Matters The world is not the same as before- as the current pandemic spreads, negative information is all around us. Now more than ever, it is a lot easier for us to overlook the good that surrounds us and focus on the bad. Unfortunately, human beings are wired to pay attention to the negative. We suffer from something called a ‘Negativity Bias’; this means that we are primed to pay more attention to the negative aspects of a situation. This wiring is more of a survival instinct and is most definitely not a bad thing – after all, when we recognize something dangerous or threatening in our environment, we are most likely to take action to deal with it. At the same time, this bias can get in the way of our happiness. Decades of research suggests that negative attitudes and feelings can adversely impact your mental and physical health. Scientists have even found that stress can affect our chromosomes in a way that causes us to age more quickly. This, in turn, sho...

It's all about your energy

Image
It’s all about your energy “The more positive thoughts we have, the more of that energy we will exude”. It’s been an interesting weekend. It started off starting to watch a movie on Netflix about Quantum physics and energy. This isn’t new stuff for me, but it’s interesting that after starting that movie, the next day, I had a great conversation about energy with my dad. I believe that the movie and the conversation that followed were meant to serve as a reminder to be aware of my energy. It also reminded me that I have to be mindful of my thoughts and words because that determines my energy. We’ve all been in a situation where we’ve started the day feeling really good about things, and a brief encounter with them shifts that energy. If you’re not careful, you can go from 10 to a quick 4, if not lower, in no time. The opposite is true as well, you can start not feeling your best, and a conversation with someone can take you from a 2 to an 8. Think about the energy you ca...

Keeping Hope Alive..

Image
Keeping hope alive Hope. When we’re at our lowest, it can be hard to think about. Everything feels hopeless. It can be hard to hear people talking about having faith and hoping that things will get better. When you’re going through your dark night of the soul, it can feel like things will remain something you experienced once, and it will never happen again. If you’ve been through a time in your life when things seemed hopeless, and you made it through to another side- Congratulations! I know the struggle those rough patches can be, but I also know the relief I’ve felt when things started to get better. That’s the thing to always remember: they can get better no matter how hard things get. It’s easy to say when you’re at a point in your life where things are on upswing, and even when you may have plateaued. Hearing clichés like, “this too shall pass” can seem empty when you’re experiencing the darkness. The good news is that there is a way out of that darkness when you’re ready. ...
